Efficient packaging process for fresh beef in Australia

Fresh beef makes enormously high demands on hygiene, process reliability and consistently high packaging quality. A slaughterhouse opted to update their packaging processes from scratch to meet the rising performance requirements and improve its cost-efficiency in the long term.

Starting situation

An older double chamber vacuum machine and a manual shrink tank were employed up to now. This combination meant comparatively slow workflows since several process steps had to be performed manually. It made the entire packaging process time-consuming and required the deployment of several people. The legacy technology had also reached its limits in terms of output and performance.

Challenge

The company was on the lookout for a future-proof solution that would make the packaging process far more efficient and reduce personnel costs. One crucial point was that the new system could be integrated in the existing production surroundings without demanding a great deal of space. In addition, it had to guarantee constantly high performance with increased output so as to remain competitive in the long term and ensure stable processes.

Solution

A decision was made in favor of the installation of a GK402 in combination with an AT8 shrink tank. With this leading-edge system solution, the packaging process was automated for the most part. Processes are now far more efficient, smooth and reliable. At the same time, manual work has been vastly reduced, so fewer employees are needed for operations.

The result is a notable boost in productivity while process stability has been pumped up – and the packaging of fresh beef has been optimized, maintaining consistent top quality.
