Flexible packaging solution to ensure top quality standards

Starting situation:

A long-established Italian company produces premium salami and sausage specialties that meet the most stringent quality standards. The pork used originates entirely from Italy, predominantly from the farms of the company’s own cooperative members. The wide range of regional specialties require a packaging solution that ideally highlights the premium nature of the products.

Challenge:

The extensive product range includes greatly diverse calibers, lengths, and product heights. At the same time, the production space available for the new packaging line was quite limited. The goal was therefore to find a solution offering maximum flexibility for diverse product formats, ensuring superior packaging quality while making optimal use of the available space. For premium sausage specialties in particular, a precisely centered seal is crucial for achieving a visually perfect end product for the retail market.

Solution:

To address both the spatial constraints and the varying performance requirements in the best possible way, the decision was made to combine a medium-sized and a large belt machine.

A GK 501 B and a GK 852 B were installed to handle varying production volumes. Both machines are equipped with ribbed belts, height-adjustable sealing bars, as well as complete cut-off with exhaust system. This allows for the flexible processing of varying product heights, while the precisely centered seal guarantees a high-quality product presentation.

Combining the two machines enabled optimal utilization of the available production space.

The medium and large packaging lines allow for flexible adaptation to different batch sizes and product variants, while simultaneously ensuring cost-effective, high-performance packaging at a consistently superior quality level.
